Lucent deploys phrase one of 3G CDMA2000 in Pakistan

September 6, 2005

Lucent Technologies announced it completed the first phase of a 3G CDMA2000 1X network deployment for TeleCard - a wireless local loop (WLL) operator in Pakistan. This marks the first commercial CDMA network deployment for Lucent in the Middle East and Africa region.

The Lucent-supplied network - using the 1900 MHz spectrum band - supports 500,000 lines and enabled TeleCard to recently launch the first private WLL-based telecom service in Pakistan called "GO CDMA." This offering provides businesses and residential customers with wireless voice and basic data services.

"Our 'GO CDMA' service positions us as a premier integrated telecom solutions provider in Pakistan and offers our subscribers a high-quality and value-added communications experience," said Fazal Hussain, CEO of TeleCard. "We're pleased to work with Lucent because we believe in their high-quality solutions and strong support structure."

"This is a great day for Lucent in this region because it is our first commercial CDMA network deployment in the Middle East and Africa region," said Mohammed Ghafari, executive sales director for Lucent Technologies in the Middle East region.
