Savaje Technologies establishes R&D to target mobile market in China

September 26, 2006

SavaJe Technologies announced the opening of a new research and development facility in China established in partnership with Hangzhou Dianzi University School of Computer Science and Software Engineering. The new facility will support development of SavaJe-powered media phones, smartphones and other mobile devices specifically designed for China, the world's largest and fastest growing mobile market with an estimated 425 million mobile subscribers.

To address specific requirements of Chinese handset manufacturers and wireless operators, the new research and development facility will create various enhancements to the SavaJe Mobile Platform, including Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA) support, user interface localization, embedded software and Chinese-specific mobile Java applications. Jointly developed by the China Academy of Telecommunications Technology in collaboration with Datang Mobile, TD-SCDMA is China's standard for 3G mobile communications.

The opening of the new facility coincides with SavaJe's announcement that Longcheer Technology, one of the top four independent handset designers in China, has selected the SavaJe Mobile Platform for handsets it expects to release in China and Europe.

"China has become a major development hub for mobile applications and devices, so the joint TD-SCDMA Research and Development Center provides SavaJe with an in-country presence for working directly with local partners and customers," said John Fursdon, vice president and general manager of SavaJe China. "By collaborating with Hangzhou Dianzi University, we have immediately expanded our R&D resources to deliver on multiple agreements we have with Longcheer and other Chinese handset designers and manufacturers."

"As a leading educational institution in China, one of our goals is to foster broader partnerships between corporations and the university in order to expand the educational opportunities for our students," said Professor Mme. Sun Lingling, vice president of Hangzhou Dianzi University. "Through this joint facility, our students will gain valuable real-world experience developing for an innovative mobile platform while SavaJe gains the local expertise to accelerate the growth of its business in China."
