Australia's third generation spectrum auction finished on Thursday after raising A$1.17 billion. The auction closed after round nineteen. The final result was only marginally above the A$1.08 billion reserve price.

Telecom Corp. of New Zealand Wednesday announced the withdrawal of its AAPT unit from the Australian government's auction of 3G, spectrum.

The Australian Communications Authority said on Thursday Australia's third generation (3G) mobile phone spectrum auction would start on March 15, with the reserve price set at A$1.08 billion.

Four out of seven approved bidders in its 3rd generation mobile phone spectrum auction have lodged a full deposit or eligibility payment, which allows them to bid for as much spectrum as they are legally able to hold.

Telstra, Cable & Wireless Optus, Vodafone Pacific, and 3G Investments all lodged the maximum deposit or eligibility payment.

AAPT, Hutchison Telecommunications Australia Ltd. and CKW Wireless Pty. Ltd. lodged only partial bids.

The Australian Communications Authority said that 7 bidders have applied to take part in Australia's auction of 3rd generation spectrum due in March. The companies are Telstra Corp, Cable & Wireless Optus Ltd, AAPT Ltd, Hutchison Telecommunications Australia Ltd, Vodafone Pacific Pty. Ltd., CKW Wireless Pty. Ltd. and 3G Investments Australia Pty. Ltd.
