Belgium's auction for four possible third-generation mobile telephone licenses attracted only the three operators- Belgacom unit Proximus, France Telecom's Mobistar NV and KPN Orange Belgium NV

16th Feb 01:
The Belgian government said Friday it has accepted the bids of three companies for the third generation mobile phone licenses and will start on Feb 27th. The three companies are Belgacom Mobile, France Telecom unit Mobistar and KPN Mobile 3G Belgium.

8th Feb 01:
Three mobile-phone companies said they would bid for four wireless phone licenses in Belgium, indicating the government may miss its money-raising target as phone companies balk at the costs of building faster-access phone networks. It attracted only three bidders for the four licences it is offering, throwing the propsed auction in disarray and leaving it well short of the BFr60bn ($1.4bn) it hoped to raise.

A government spokesman said Tuesday that Telecommunications Minister Rik Daems wouldn't alter the format for an auction of third-generation mobile telephone licenses in Belgium.

Belgium said Friday its auction of third-generation mobile telephone licenses is expected to begin March 7.
