China plans to issue five 3G licenses to domestic telecom operators,
including China Telecom, China Mobile and China Unicom, according
to the Ministry of Information Industry's policy studies center.

China has just two nationwide mobile carriers, China Mobile and
China Unicom. Both are expected to be awarded. Most industry watchers
say 3G is years away in the mainland.
Three licenses will be awarded with one going to a foreign operator.
