Poland on Wednesday cancelled its third generation mobile phone
tender and decided to grant licences to the three local operators
who are Centertel, PolKontel and Polska Telefonia Cyfrowa PTC.
The operators will each pay E650m ($613m) for the licences, which
combine both GSM and UMTS rights. E250m will be payable in 2001,
and the remainder will be payed in installments over the next 18
years. A fourth UMTS licence will be granted in 2002.
