August 14, 2001:

The government in Slovakia is planning to launch the sale of a combined GSM and UMTS licence by the end of this year. According to a report from Reuters, the authorities are hoping that the lure of a 3G licence will entice more bidders for the country’s third GSM concession. The successful bidder will receive its licences early next year and could begin GSM operations in the second half of 2002, once the period of exclusivity for the current two operators ends in July.
